A model of the armored aircraft carrier Taiho in 1:700 scale from the Japanese brand Fujimi. The form designated in the name as the wood deck variant.
Responsibility details are not available.
The Taiho was the most modern Japanese carrier to reach service, and Fujimi offers her as a plastic kit. The designation of the variant in the name refers to the form with a wooden deck. Whether that means a separate part, a self-adhesive sheet or only a way of working the surface is given by the manufacturer and is not stated here.
Unlike the older Japanese carriers the Taiho received an armored flight deck, which was to protect her from bomb hits. An enclosed bow and a massive island joined to a funnel angled outboard gave the vessel a shape closer to British designs than to previous Japanese practice. She reached service in 1944 and lasted only a few months. During the engagement in the Philippine Sea a single torpedo from a submarine struck her, as a result of which fuel vapor built up in the enclosed spaces and an explosion destroyed the vessel.
If you render the deck in a wooden tone, apply it in thin coats and bring out the individual planks only with a slight change of shade, so that the result does not look striped. The armored parts and the island, by contrast, will take a deeper gray. Before applying decals a gloss intermediate coat is useful, as it prevents a matte frame around them.
The product is a kit, not a finished model. Paints and glue are not included, unless stated otherwise.
