The double-sided designation in the name means a rendition prepared to cover the clear parts from the outer and the inner face. On the Tomcat that makes sense: the two-seat cockpit is clearly visible once finished and the inner outline of the frames gives away every inaccuracy. The set is designed for the GWH kit.
The Tomcat was one of the machines with variable wing sweep: it was set automatically in flight according to speed, so the aircraft managed both a slow approach to the deck and supersonic flight. The fuselage between the engine nacelles formed a lifting surface and the armament was carried in the space between them. The D version also received more powerful propulsion and more modern cockpit equipment.
The inner parts go onto the component before you glue it into the fuselage; afterwards you will no longer reach the inner face. Once it is assembled, the outer masks come in turn and only then the spraying. Give the paint time between coats: layers applied too quickly one after another peel away with the edge during removal. Better not to polish the finished canopy until the paint has fully cured. Correct any bleed with the point of a scalpel run along the frame.
