The Balsa Birds hand-launched glider in the red version is a light glider of balsa wood, released with a single throw of the hand.
Responsibility details are not available.
A glider with no motor and no controls, the kind released by hand that then flies on by itself. The color variant is red, as the name states. This kind of flying is one of the oldest and least demanding ways into modeling: you need no transmitter, no batteries and no launching equipment, just an open space and the urge to try.
The aircraft gets all its energy in a single moment, at the throw. After that it only trades height for speed and glides to the ground on a gentle path. The quality of the flight therefore rests on two things: on the position of the center of gravity and on how you release the model. The lighter the structure, the longer the duration of the flight, and that is exactly why balsa has been used on models like these from time immemorial.
Start on an open space without wind and throw slightly above the horizontal, never steeply upward. When the model drops its nose toward the ground and falls after a short distance, take some nose weight off. When on the other hand it rocks, raises its nose and sinks through, add some in small pieces. Always make the changes one at a time and allow yourself several throws between them to judge the result.
The item comes taken apart and is put together before the first flight. Given the light wooden structure, handle the wings with care and store the model flat after flying.
