About product

Mitsubishi A6M5/A6M7 Zero – 500 kg bomb, 1:48 (Eduard)

This item is not an aircraft model but an accessory: an external store bomb of the 500 kilogram class rendered in 1:48 scale and intended for models of the Japanese Mitsubishi A6M5 and A6M7 Zero fighter. The accessory belongs among resin and printed parts, which are marked by sharp edges and a fine surface texture that injection molding in plastic cannot reach. The exact contents of the package, the number of parts and whether racks and pylons are included are not stated here.

The real subject

The Mitsubishi A6M was a Japanese carrier-based single-engine fighter with a radial engine, whose later versions were adapted to new tasks. The A6M5 was the most numerous fighter variant with a reworked wing and a strengthened structure, while the A6M7 was the variant adapted to carry a heavier store under the fuselage, which called for a reinforced airframe and reworked drop tanks. It is for this role that this external store bomb is intended.

Usage tips

Before painting, wash resin and printed parts in lukewarm water with a drop of detergent so that any mold release agent or print resin residue disappears, otherwise the paint will not hold. Cut the casting blocks and the print supports off with a saw or a knife, not with cutters, and sand the surface; wear respiratory protection while sanding, as resin dust must not be inhaled. Glue the parts with cyanoacrylate glue (super glue), as cement for plastic does not bond resin. Apply a base coat before painting, otherwise the top shade is easily scraped off a smooth surface. Try the store dry so that the bomb sits in the right position and parallel with the axis of the fuselage.

Who the accessory is for

  • Modelers who build the Zero in a configuration with an external store
  • Builders for whom the bomb from the box is not enough
  • Collectors of Japanese aircraft in 1:48 scale
  • More advanced modelers with experience of resin parts

This is an accessory, not a kit. The aircraft model, the glue, the paints and any tools are not included in the package.

FAQ

It is not. It is an external store accessory for a model you already own. The model itself is not included in the package.

The contents of the package are not stated here. We recommend checking them once you open it.

Cyanoacrylate glue (super glue). Cement for plastic does not bond resin.

Yes. Lukewarm water with a drop of detergent removes any mold release agent, and without that the paint will not hold.
