The fifth number of the German wartime line of the brand BlackSnake Model. It is a standalone figure printed from resin, which is sold with no coat of paint and with no base.
The Waffen-SS was the armed branch of the SS. During the war it grew from a few regiments into dozens of divisions and fought on the Eastern Front and on the Western Front. It differed from the army mainly in camouflage smocks and helmet covers, which appeared with it earlier, and in its own system of rank insignia. It is precisely the camouflage clothing that makes these figures the most demanding and at the same time the most rewarding subject for modelers.
A dappled pattern is painted in three steps: the base, the coarse blotches, the fine stippling. The work is made easier if the figure is first sprayed over with the shade of the base and only then the individual islands are applied with a brush with a sharp point. On such a small area it pays off to simplify the pattern, as at a reduced size the eye perceives it rather as an overall tone than as a drawing. The finished work is pulled together by a weak filter in the color of the base, which draws excessively sharp transitions toward one another and gives the surface back the impression of worn cloth.
The figure is sold raw, with no paints and with no glue; both have to be added from your own supplies.
