The Sd.Kfz.251, known as the Hanomag, was the most widespread German medium half-track of the Second World War, built in many specialized versions. The /16 Flammpanzerwagen carried a pair of side flame projectors fed from tanks of inflammable mixture and supplemented by a hand hose; it served against fortified positions and against infantry at short range. The Ausf.D version was marked out by a simplified, sloped rear to the hull and a simpler production method.
First assemble and paint the running gear and the fighting compartment with its projectors and tanks, and only then close up the hull. Glue the track links patiently along their length with a thin cement. Apply a primer and the base camouflage with an airbrush. Bring out the metal parts of the projectors and the scorching on the hoses with pigments; apply mud and dust effects to the tracks and the underside of the hull, and dark washes into the recesses.
