The real subject

The Focke-Wulf Fw 189, nicknamed Uhu, was a German twin-engine reconnaissance and observation aircraft of unusual layout: a glazed central nacelle for the crew and two slender tail booms joined by the tail surfaces. It served mainly for close reconnaissance, artillery spotting and liaison, above all on the Eastern Front. The A-2 version had strengthened defensive armament. In white winter camouflage it blended into the snow-covered landscape of the Eastern Front.

Building and painting tips

Separate the small parts with a sharp knife and clean them up carefully, and glue the joints with a thin cement for plastic. It pays to mask the glazed nacelle for clean framing. Lay down a primer under the finish; handle the winter camouflage as a white coat that wore away in service, and a discreet show-through of the camouflage underneath, along with traces of wear, will give a small model scale fidelity.
