The cast 1:72 Wessex HC.2 tail folding joint mechanism lets you build the British transport helicopter with its tail turned to the side.
Responsibility details are not available.
This set from Quickboost holds a cast mechanism for the place where the tail boom of the Wessex HC.2 helicopter folds. It is made for 1:72 scale and replaces the simplified solution that comes out of the plastic mold. The helicopter model has to be bought separately; what you get here are the resin parts only.
Shipboard helicopters have to take up as little room in the hangar as possible, which is why the rear part of the fuselage turns to the side. At the fold there is a joint with linkage and locks, clearly visible from outside when the machine is unfolded. A model with the boom folded also looks far more interesting on a base than one in flight configuration, because it shows the inside of the structure.
The HC.2 was the transport version for the Royal Air Force, powered by a pair of turbines mounted side by side in the nose. It carried troops, underslung loads and casualties and flew everywhere from Germany through Northern Ireland to Hong Kong. It stayed in service into the 1990s and is among the best known British helicopters of all. The characteristic sound of the pair of turbines and its angular silhouette made it a piece of British aviation history.
