A hex nut with a bolt 1.0 mm in size is a part with which you replace a suggested joint on a model with a three-dimensional one. One millimeter is a rewarding dimension: the part is large enough to be worked with by tweezers without frustration, and at the same time small enough not to look coarse on a model. The edges of the hex stay readable even under a coat of paint, and during a wash a line of shadow forms around the part by itself, settling the joint into the surface.
A bolted joint with a hex nut is found on machinery anywhere something has to be able to come apart: flanges, lids and covers, the brackets of tanks and radiators, frame feet, gearbox mountings. On a model it also serves where the detail is missing from the kit because it could not be molded, or where it fell victim to the sanding of seams. It looks good inside open compartments too, where the joint is clearly in view.
First level the surface under the part and clear it of dust. Mark the place in advance with a shallow recess, so that the part does not slide while being laid down. Carry the glue in a minute amount with the tip of a wire, a toothpick or the point of a needle. Painting can be done before gluing as well as after; just take care that the coat of paint does not clog the edges of the hex.
For modelers who take the surface of a model into detail, and for repairing places where the joint is missing after the seams were worked. Paints and glue are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
