A hex with a lowered head 0.5 mm across, complemented by a washer of larger diameter. The finest size of a type whose head does not stand as high above the surface as in the full version.
Responsibility details are not available.
The designation semi light describes the height, not the width. The head has the same number of faces and the same width across as the full variant, but it sits lower. On a real motorcycle such bolts are used where a tall profile was in the way or where the designer was saving weight. In reduction it becomes a detail noticed only by someone who looks close up, and that is exactly why it is worth having.
Height, moreover, is the dimension most easily lost in a large scale. The width of the head is seen from above and holds up, but the profile is lost under a build-up of paint and varnish. With the smallest size of the family that goes double: a low head and several coats of finish together easily add up to a smooth little face with nothing standing out of it at all.
The recommendation for painting is therefore specific: rather two thin coats than one generous one, and apply the varnish judiciously. Anyone who installs the part only after the piece has been sprayed gains an advantage, because the head stays crisp and the definition of the edges is not lost. Degreasing the seat before installing is a step worth not leaving out in either procedure.
One more circumstance is worth considering. A lowered profile comes into its own on surfaces that are to stay smooth and where a tall head would stick out. Where the joint is to catch the eye instead, reach for the full variant. The two can be combined on one machine; it just needs knowing in advance where each size will end up.
