The instrument panels of the front and the rear cockpit of the two-seat Strike Eagle. A casting with raised display bezels instead of flat plastic with a decal.
Responsibility details are not available.
On a large model the cockpit is the first thing everyone looks over, and on a two-seat machine there are two of them at once. The pilot's front station is built around a wide-angle head-up display and several screens, while the weapon systems officer sits at the rear with a panel before him dominated by four displays side by side. It is precisely this difference between the front and the rear panel that makes the Eagle a machine recognizable at a single glance into the cockpit.
A kit usually deals with both as a flat panel onto which a decal is stuck. It looks flat, because a real panel is far from it: the screens sit in bezels, the buttons around them form pronounced relief and the switches stick out into space. The casting keeps this depth. The panel can be painted dark gray, the displays rounded out in gloss black and the bezels drawn out with a dry brush, by which every transition is deepened.
For the best result the set is usually combined with decals or photo-etched plates for the individual instruments. Given that the panel is seated deep under the cockpit cover, round it out with lighting for the view as well, that is a lighter shade for the roof so that more light falls inside.
The parts are shaped for the large Tamiya kits in the two-seat combat form of the aircraft. Before gluing it in, check that the panel does not overhang the outline of the cockpit tub, otherwise the clear cover will not close. A short sequence of steps at the end: seat the panel dry, glue on the side consoles, try the cover and only then reach for the glue.
