About product

The set

Replacement horizontal tail surfaces for a model of the F-16 in 1:32 scale in the rendition designated Smooth Surface, that is with a smooth surface and no raised structure. The difference against the common rendition lies precisely in the pattern of the surface, so the choice between the two variants is governed by the machine you are building and by the photographs in which it is captured.

The real subject

The horizontal tail surfaces of the F-16 are all-moving: they are not divided into a fixed part and an elevator, but pivot as a whole. On parked aircraft they are therefore usually not level and tend to be deflected out of the neutral position, which is clearly apparent in photographs. A separate part allows the angle to be set according to the real subject, whereas a surface molded in one piece with the fuselage gives no such freedom.

  • Horizontal tail surfaces for the F-16 in 1:32 scale
  • A rendition with a smooth surface and no raised structure
  • Separate parts, so sanding the seam around the circumference falls away
  • It allows the surfaces to be tilted into the position of your choice
  • Compare the choice of rendition with photographs of the particular machine

Building and painting tips

Cut the excess material away with a sharp blade a little distance from the part and sand the rest down so that the root seats with no gap. On a smooth surface it pays to sand especially carefully and to work through finer grits, because every scratch is visible on an unstructured surface. Wash and degrease the parts before painting, then seat both at once and even the angle up when viewed from behind. Choose the glue according to the material of the parts; the specific procedure is given in the maker's instructions.

Who it is for

For builders of large F-16 models who are building a particular machine and want the surface of the tail to agree with the real subject. This is an accessory for a kit; paints and glue are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
