A photo-etched add-on set from Master Tools in 1:700 scale, containing railings and safety nets for ship models. It is not a ship kit and not a stand-alone model; it is a universal accessory with which you fit the decks and the walkways of a ship you are already building with fine photo-etched railings and nets. It is precisely the thin, pierced railing that is the detail the plastic parts from the box cannot imitate, and it markedly raises the realistic impression of a finished model.

Use and tips

• The set is universal, so you will use it on a range of different ships in 1:700 scale, not on one particular type.
• Bend the photo-etched railing strips over the edge of a ruler or in a photo-etch bender so that the stanchions stay vertical.
• Glue the parts with a cyanoacrylate glue (super glue) applied in the smallest amount, because plastic cement does not bond to photo-etch.
• The railings are best painted with an airbrush before as well as after gluing, with small touch-ups by brush.
• Work with tweezers and a sharp knife, because thin photo-etched parts are easily creased.
