An aftermarket set, not a kit. It holds a veneer cutout of the decks in 1:700 scale with the laying of the planks printed on it and with a self-adhesive base. On ships of the beginning of the twentieth century wooden decks are the dominant visible area, because the superstructures are low and the hull is very open. The veneer therefore changes the look of a model more markedly than on later ships with a complicated superstructure. The set is intended for the Trumpeter 06704 kit.

The real subject

HMS Dreadnought entered the service of the Royal Navy in 1906 and by the combination of a uniform main battery of a large caliber with turbine propulsion gave her name to the whole following generation of battleships. Her decks were laid with wood according to the British practice of the time. The year 1907 in the name refers to the early configuration of the ship, which the cut of the cutouts in this set matches.

Gluing tips

The shade of the wood decides whether a model reads faithfully. Printed veneer tends to be lighter than a real weathered teak deck, so it pays to fine-tune the tone. Use a very thin stain or a heavily thinned oil paint and apply it in coats until you reach the tone you want, never in one heavy coat, after which the veneer will ripple. Then seal the surface with matte varnish, which evens the sheen out and protects the print. Add the metal parts and the gratings around the deck only at the end, so as not to touch the veneer while working.
