Artwox Model wooden deck HMS Malaya 1943 in 1:700 scale replaces the smooth plastic deck with a veneer cut-out carrying printed plank laying. It is sold on its own, without a kit. The cut-out matches the decks of the Trumpeter 05799 kit.
Responsibility details are not available.
An accessory for ship modelers: a thin veneer sheet cut to the shape of the deck, with printed plank pattern and a self-adhesive layer on the back. It is neither a kit nor a finished model; the set is there to improve a Trumpeter 05799 battleship kit in 1:700 scale that you already own.
The segments are machine cut, so the outlines follow the shape of the plastic deck including the openings for the superstructures and turrets. That is exactly why it pays to assemble the whole sheet dry on the model first, with the backing film still on, and work out which piece goes where. On a battleship the cut-out is usually split into several parts and their order is not always obvious at first glance. Only after the dry fit should you start gluing, because taking the veneer off again without damage is generally impossible.
HMS Malaya was a British battleship of the Queen Elizabeth class, paid for by the Federated Malay States and commissioned before the Battle of Jutland. In the Second World War she served mainly in the Atlantic and the Mediterranean on convoy duty; by 1943 she was among the older units of the fleet, and both her armament and her superstructures had been through wartime changes. Her appearance in that year matches the later, markedly built-up configuration.
Work on a clean surface and with degreased hands; grease from the fingers stays visible on the veneer. Use flat-jawed tweezers for the small segments. Any overhang at the edges is better trimmed with a fresh blade than sanded away.
An accessory for a model. The kit, glue and paints are not part of the delivery.
