An injection-molded plastic kit of the British battlecruiser HMS Repulse in 1:700 scale from Tamiya, from the Waterline Series. The model has the hull at waterline level, main-caliber turrets, the long slender silhouette typical of battlecruisers and anti-aircraft armament. A name plate is enclosed for display.
HMS Repulse belonged to the British Renown class and, as a battlecruiser, combined heavy armament with high speed at the price of thinner armor. She carried six 381 mm guns. After interwar modernizations she served in the Second World War; at the end of 1941 she was sunk together with the battleship Prince of Wales by a Japanese air attack off the coast of Malaya. Her loss came to symbolize the rise of air superiority over large surface vessels.
Clean up the joints of the hull and the deck carefully. Lay down the gray shade with an airbrush, and a fine wash will pick out the panel lines and the details. The fine railings and masts come out best once a photo-etched set has been added (not included in the package). The model can be displayed on a stand or in a diorama.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
