A plastic kit of the American battleship USS Colorado in 1:700 scale from Trumpeter, capturing the ship in her 1944 fit. The box makes it possible to build the model either as a full-hull version or as a waterline one (cut off at the waterline). Photo-etched parts, decals, two shipboard aircraft and a stand are included. The deck has a finely rendered texture of plank decking.
USS Colorado was the lead ship of the American battleship class of the same name and carried main artillery of roughly 406 mm. By 1944 she already had strengthened anti-aircraft armament and radar equipment matching the later phase of the war in the Pacific, where she took part in supporting landing operations. The critical features of her silhouette are the lattice masts and the extensive batteries of light guns.
The model contains a number of small parts, so tweezers and a steady hand are useful. The choice between the full hull and the waterline version affects both the build and the way it is displayed. The photo-etched lattice masts call for patience. An airbrush and masking of the individual camouflage bands make the painting easier, while fine photo-etched railings raise the realism. It is worth finishing the deck in wood shades and weathering it.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
