WWII RN Life Float I is a set of small plastic parts in 1:700 scale from the Chinese manufacturer Flyhawk. It contains life floats of the Royal Navy and serves as an accessory to ship models; it is not a stand-alone model.
Responsibility details are not available.
This is not a model of a ship but a set of small injection-molded parts from the Chinese manufacturer Flyhawk intended to refine finished kits in 1:700 scale. The subject of the set is life floats of the kind carried by Royal Navy vessels during the Second World War, inflatable and framed floats stowed along superstructures, on splinter shields and on deck structures.
Life floats are among the most conspicuous small elements of the silhouette of a ship, but in kits in 1:700 scale they tend to be only coarsely hinted at or to form one whole with the superstructure. The separate parts from this set have a finer division, sharper outlines and look more faithful. At the same time the package tends to hold more of them than one model needs, so they also come in useful as a stock for further builds and for filling in where a kit holds no floats at all.
The parts are really small, so work over a surface and with tweezers. Separate them from the fret with a sharp scalpel or with photo-etch shears, never by twisting. It pays to paint them while still on the fret and to glue them to the model only once finished, onto a drop of liquid cement for plastic; for extra accent a dark wash helps, as it emphasizes the lashing and the mounting of a float. It is sensible to place them in their intended spots according to period photographs of the particular ship.
This is an accessory, not a stand-alone model. The set is supplied unassembled and unpainted; glue and paints are not included in the package.
