This is an accessory for building a model, not the model itself. The set contains masking templates cut to the shape of the cockpit glazing, which are stuck onto the clear part, sprayed over with the color of the frames and removed once dry. On jet trainers with a long two-seat canopy, masking is one of the most visible parts of the work - a frame of uneven width spoils the impression of the whole model. The Aermacchi M-311 is an Italian light jet trainer that grows out of the design of the older SIAI-Marchetti S-211 and takes over its basic layout: a high wing, one jet engine in the rear fuselage and a crew of two seated in tandem with a raised rear seat. The modernization concerned mainly the avionics and the cockpit, so that the machine could handle the training of pilots destined for new-generation jet combat aircraft. The type later designated M-345 grew out of this program. A characteristic feature is the long, markedly bulged cockpit canopy with a division between the front and the rear seat.
Wash and degrease the clear part before you start. Lift the templates out of the sheet with the tip of a sharp knife, transfer them with tweezers and stick them onto the areas that are to stay clear. Press the edges down carefully; on a bulged canopy work from the center toward the edges and form the curvature with a toothpick. Cut any parts the sheet does not cover - the transition between the frame and the fuselage, for instance - from the waste material or fill them in with narrow masking tape. Spray the frames first with the shade of the interior and then with the external finish. Spray in thin coats, so that the paint does not run under the edge of the mask. Take the templates off shortly after they have dried, at a sharp angle and slowly.
