The set captures Austrian grenadiers of the Napoleonic period in winter dress, standing uniformly in the shoulder arms stance. These are unpainted figures of soft plastic in 1:72 scale, which are not assembled and once the flash is removed can be painted straight away. The static stance makes them a universal building element: they suit muster formations, line-ups in front of a post, the edge of a camp and also serve as an addition to more mobile sets.
In the field Austrian grenadiers were recognized by the tall cap with a fur band and a front plate, which they wore even over a greatcoat. Winter dress means a long outer greatcoat drawn over the coat and the equipment, so of the uniform mainly the cap, the crossbelts and the boots remain visible. For a modeler that is an advantage rather than a loss: the color scheme is simpler and the center of gravity of the work shifts to the modeling of the folds of the greatcoat.
First remove the thin flash along the parting line of the mold; a sharp scalpel drawn flat will do for that, or fine abrasive paper. Washing in lukewarm water with detergent and thorough drying follow. Without a base primer the paint on soft plastic will not stand up to a figure being bent. In this scale a greatcoat is most quickly brought to life by applying a darker glaze over the base tone, which flows into the folds, and once dry accenting the edges with a dry brush two shades lighter. Work the fur part of the cap with a thicker dry brush, so that the texture of the hair is caught. Finally unify the figures with matte clear, which at the same time protects the paint during handling.
The figures are supplied unassembled and unpainted. Paints, primer and glue are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
