A set of cut masking parts of kabuki paper for a model of the North American B-45A or B-45C Tornado bomber in 1:72 scale.
Responsibility details are not available.
The B-45 Tornado was the first American jet-powered bomber to enter squadron service. It had a straight wing, a glazed nose for the navigator and four engines slung under the wing in pairs. The A and C versions differed in their equipment and in the fit for in-flight refueling; in its day it was a transitional type between the piston bombers of the Second World War and the later machines with swept wings.
The parts are cut from kabuki paper, that is a thin self-adhesive tape that conforms to curvature and leaves no adhesive residue on the surface once lifted. On this type in particular it pays off twice over: the glazed nose has a lot of small panes and masking it with hand-cut tape takes longer than the whole fuselage assembly.
Wash the glazing before sticking anything on and let it dry thoroughly. Lift the parts off the sheet with the tip of a scalpel or with tweezers, try them dry, then press them down and smooth the edges carefully so that paint cannot get underneath. The masks go on before spraying, the paint goes on in several light coats and the masks come off shortly after it has dried.
For builders of the B-45A or B-45C model in 1:72 scale who want the glazing frames sharp and straight. What exactly the sheet holds and which kit it is cut for is given in the manufacturer's instructions. The model, the paints and the glue are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
