An add-on resin wheels set for building a model of the Bell-Boeing V-22 Osprey tiltrotor in 1:72 scale. It replaces the wheels from the plastic kit, where the tread pattern tends to be merely suggested and the hub simplified. The Type 2 designation refers to a particular form of the wheels within the manufacturer's range; the distinction between the individual types is described by the manufacturer on the box of the set. The number of parts in the package is given on the box.
The V-22 Osprey is a tiltrotor with tilting engine nacelles at the wingtips. With the rotors set vertically it takes off and lands like a helicopter, and once the nacelles are tilted into the horizontal position it flies like a turboprop aircraft, that is faster and farther. The landing gear is retractable, with a nose wheel, and the main wheels stow into sponsons on the sides of the fuselage. That is exactly why the execution of the wheels is clearly visible on a model with the landing gear extended.
What helps the result most is separating the colors: a tire is not black but rather a very dark gray and flat, whereas the hub has a different shade and a different sheen. The surest procedure is to paint the whole wheel in the shade of the tire, mask the tread with a narrow strip of masking tape or a circular template once it has dried, and only then spray the hub. Before painting, wash the parts in warm water with a detergent because of remnants of release agent, and apply a base coat. Cut the casting block off with a fine-toothed saw and level the surface on abrasive paper laid on a flat board, so that the wheel sits down over its whole contact area. They are glued with cyanoacrylate.
This is an accessory, not a complete kit. It is supplied unpainted; paints, glue and the base model are not included in the package.
