An accessory cockpit set for a model of the Messerschmitt Bf 109E-3 and E-4 fighter in 1:72 scale. It replaces the cockpit supplied with the kit and brings finer shapes and detail.
Responsibility details are not available.
The Bf 109E was among the most widespread German fighters of the turn of the 1930s and 1940s. It was powered by the DB 601 inverted V12 engine, which gave the aircraft a slender nose. The E-3 and E-4 versions differed mainly in armament and in the form of the canopy, but the structure of the cockpit remained the same, so one set can cover both.
The set replaces the cockpit of a 1:72 model. The parts are rendered more finely than an ordinary kit allows, and once assembled the cockpit shows clearly under an open canopy. It is precisely in the small scale that the crispness of the small shapes decides the result, and plastic parts usually do not have it.
The parts are not polystyrene, so they are bonded with super glue. Cut the excess material away with a sharp blade a little short of the part and sand off the rest. Wash and degrease the whole set before painting. Dry-fit the cockpit into the fuselage until the halves close without pressure, sanding from the inside if need be. Small areas are easier to paint before they are glued; a dark wash and a dry brush on the edges help at the end.
The set is for modelers who want the canopy open and are not content with a plastic part that gives the outline only. It calls for patience, fine tools and a steady hand when painting the small parts. The kit itself, paints and glue are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
