The Grumman F-14 Tomcat was an American carrier-borne fighter with a crew of two and with a variable-sweep wing. The F-14B version differs from the original variant above all in its powerplants, because it got newer engines with higher thrust and better operating characteristics. In the later part of its service some of the aircraft were adapted for attacks on ground targets with guided as well as unguided stores, and the informal name Bombcat took hold for that role. The type was withdrawn from operational service with the US Navy in 2006.
With a type with a variable-geometry wing, decide before gluing whether you want the wing in the spread or the swept position and proceed accordingly. It pays to check the fit of the parts dry, above all at the air intakes and where the fuselage joins the wing box. Gray naval camouflage tends to be less contrasting, so it pays to shade the individual panels lightly and to accent the lines with a dark wash. Apply a gloss varnish before the decals, and once they are dry even the surface out with a semi-matte overcoat. Fit the external stores only once the lower surfaces are painted.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
