This is not an aircraft kit but a separate resin accessory from the Quickboost brand. It holds the attachment of the dust filter on the engine air intake in the late execution, that is the variant whose body differs in shape from the early type, which the manufacturer sells separately. The casting solves a detail that is commonly missing from kits altogether, or is rendered as a coarse plastic lump with no suggestion of the structure of the inlet.
The Messerschmitt Bf 109 in the F and G series was a single-engine fighter with a liquid-cooled inverted V12. Operation from dusty field strips meant that the fine sand drawn into the compressor ground away the inside of the engine, so an additional filter was part of the ordinary equipment of machines in southern regions. The execution of the filter was adjusted over the course of the deployment and modelers commonly tell earlier and later machines apart by its shape.
First check which execution corresponds to the machine you are building, because the early and late variants are sold separately and a mix-up shows straight away in the silhouette of the front of the model. Cut the casting off the casting block with a saw, sand the seating face flat and dry fit it to see how it meets the side of the engine cowling; fill any gap with a thin filler. After washing it free of mold release and spraying it with primer, paint the filter only once it is glued on, together with the surrounding camouflage, because otherwise the transition of shades will be visible. Darken the inlet of the filter at the end so that it does not look like a flat surface.
The accessory is supplied unpainted and unassembled. Glue, paints and the base kit are not included in the package. It is not a standalone model, because it requires a corresponding kit in 1:72 scale.
