A decal sheet from the manufacturer Kits-World in 1:72 scale focused on the period paintings applied to the forward fuselage of Boeing B-17F Flying Fortress bombers. Nose art was with these machines a common practice of the time serving to tell them apart; the sheet reproduces it including the accompanying lettering. Which particular designs are contained on the sheet and how many there are follows the illustration on the packaging.
The B-17F was the version of the Flying Fortress preceding the most widespread variant, the B-17G. It is told above all by the glazed nose without a chin turret and by the one-piece clear cover of the forward fuselage. The structure was all-metal and the power came from four radial engines with turbochargers. The area of the fuselage between the nose glazing and the leading edge of the wing was on these machines the main place for individual painting.
In 1:72 scale the designs are small and fine, which places demands on the condition of the sheet itself. Decals age with time: the carrier film yellows and becomes brittle, especially with sheets stored in the light. Look at the sheet against the light before working, therefore, and if in doubt soak one design at the edge as a test first. If the film breaks when lifted out, go over the whole sheet with a thin layer of clear varnish in an aerosol, let it dry and only then cut the decals out and soak them. Once they are stuck on, even the surface of the model out with a final matte clear coat so that the transition of the film disappears.
