The flaps of the CRJ 700 and CRJ 900 regional jets in 1:72 scale: an add-on set that exchanges the retracted trailing edge of the wing for the extended landing position.
Responsibility details are not available.
The set handles a single but very visible task: getting the flaps on the wing of the regional jet into the position the machine holds during the approach to landing. An ordinary kit tends to have the trailing edge cast in one piece and retracted, so the finished model looks as if it were flying at cruise altitude. Once the original edge is cut out and these parts are fitted, the view opens up onto the extended sections, the gaps between them and the surfaces that otherwise stay hidden.
The Bombardier CRJ 700 and CRJ 900 are stretched versions of the Canadian family of regional jets, which grew out of the Challenger business aircraft. They serve on shorter routes with dozens of passengers, and you recognize them by the slender wing with pronounced winglets and by the pair of engines on the sides of the rear fuselage. The target model is named directly in the name of the item.
The work begins with a precise cut. Trace the outline from the parts and remove the material gradually, rather in several passes than in one deep stroke. Repeat the dry fit until the sections seat without pressure. Before painting, wash the parts in lukewarm water with a drop of dish soap and let them dry properly. The inner surfaces of the flaps are painted before gluing; once they are fitted a brush will no longer reach them.
