A self-adhesive masking set in kabuki paper for a kit of the stretched version of the C-130J-30 Super Hercules in 1:72 scale. The set is listed at the EXPERT level, that is the highest of the three extents this brand offers — above the basic BASIC level and the intermediate ADVANCED. The extent of the masked areas is correspondingly greater. It is neither a model of the aircraft nor decals, but an aid for painting. The masks are pre-cut to the shape of the areas to be masked, so you simply peel them off the backing, stick them on and spray.
The C-130J represents the latest generation of the Hercules transport. It has new-generation turboprop engines, six-blade composite propellers and digital avionics, thanks to which a crew of two pilots can handle the aircraft. The J-30 variant differs from the basic guise in its stretched fuselage, which increases the volume of the cargo hold. Aircraft of this type serve for logistics flights, airdrops, evacuations and humanitarian missions.
Clean and degrease the glazing, stick the masks on and press the edges down carefully with a toothpick or a stick. Apply the paint in thin coats — a heavy coat peels away together with the edge when the mask is removed. Take the mask off while the paint is freshly dry; once it has fully cured there is a risk of tearing a piece of the finish away. With a fuller set it pays to work in sections and to keep checking that no paint has got under an edge. Remains of adhesive can be removed carefully with a cotton swab moistened in spirit, but never on an acrylic finish that has not yet cured.
