An injection-molded plastic kit from the Ukrainian manufacturer Amodel in 1:72 scale. Amodel has long devoted itself to short-run molds and to subjects the large manufacturers do not offer. The character of the build goes with that: the parts tend to have more prominent gates and parting lines and you have to reckon with cleaning them up by hand and with test-fitting dry. The reward is a model of an aircraft that practically does not occur in plastic elsewhere.
The Cobalt Co50 Valkyrie is a modern single-engine general aviation aircraft of American origin. It has a canard configuration with a forward horizontal lifting surface and with a pusher propeller placed behind the cabin, a bubble canopy and a very cleanly shaped fuselage. The design aimed at a high cruising speed and a roomy cabin for the pilot and several passengers. The prototype flew in the middle of the previous decade and, given its unusual configuration, the machine is among the most conspicuous aircraft of its category.
With short-run molds it pays to try every part dry first and only then to glue it. The joints of the fuselage and the attachment of the lifting surfaces usually want a little filler and sanding over. Glue with a thin cement for plastic, which wicks into the seam and does not clog detail. The smooth shapes of the aircraft will reveal every unevenness, so spray the surface with a filler primer before painting and sand any scratches over with fine abrasive paper. Paint with an airbrush in thin coats; with glossy civilian schemes the key is a perfectly prepared base. Gloss varnish under the decals will prevent them from silvering, and a final varnish will unify the surface.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
