About product

A resin cockpit for the F-111C in the early form, 1:72 scale

The set consists of a resin cockpit and three-dimensional decals that give the instrument panels raised depth and color. It is not an aircraft model but an accessory for a plastic kit. In 1:72 scale the cockpit is small, yet it is clearly visible under the glazing, and this is exactly where the difference between bare plastic and a carefully detailed interior shows most. The set is made for the early form of the cockpit, which matters, because F-111 machines went through step-by-step changes of equipment during their service.

The real subject

The General Dynamics F-111 is a two-seat combat aircraft with a variable-geometry wing and crew seats side by side, which gives it an unusually wide forward fuselage. The F-111C version was created for the Royal Australian Air Force and combined a longer wing and strengthened landing gear with the equipment of the early tactical forms. It stayed in service for decades and went through avionics upgrades, so the early and the later state of the cockpit differ noticeably.

Usage tips

Wash the resin parts in lukewarm water with detergent, cut the casting blocks off with a saw and true up the surfaces with sandpaper. Apply the three-dimensional decals to a smooth, clean surface, ideally over a primer; blot the excess water and press the decal down with a soft brush so that it settles into the recesses as well. It is sensible to finish and paint the cockpit before the fuselage is closed. Protect your airways when sanding resin.

Who the set is for

  • builders of the F-111C aircraft in 1:72 scale
  • modelers who want a carefully worked interior under the glazing
  • more experienced builders working with resin and decals
  • anyone interested in Australian combat aviation

FAQ

The set matches the earlier state of the cockpit equipment. F-111 aircraft went through avionics upgrades during their service, so later machines looked different inside.

They are applied to a smooth, clean surface much like ordinary decals, except that it is worth pressing them down with a soft brush once laid on, so that they settle into the recesses.

It is not. This is an accessory for a plastic kit, which has to be obtained separately.
