An injection-molded plastic kit of the F-35A Lightning II fighter in 1:72 scale from the Italian maker Italeri. It is a reworked edition with an updated mold and a new sprue of carried ordnance, matching the so-called Beast Mode, that is carrying the maximum of weapons on the external pylons as well. The kit offers a detailed cockpit with an ejection seat, well-worked external pylons and ordnance, finely engraved panel lines, a faithfully rendered landing gear and weapons bays that can be assembled open or closed. A decal sheet with several marking options is included, among them for the Italian, Israeli and Australian air forces.
The Lockheed Martin F-35A Lightning II is a single-seat fifth-generation multi-role fighter with an emphasis on a reduced radar signature and advanced sensors. The CTOL designation means conventional take-off and landing: this is the land-based version intended primarily for air forces, unlike the naval F-35C and the F-35B with short take-off and vertical landing. In the so-called Beast Mode the aircraft gives up full stealth and carries weapons not only in its internal bays but on external pylons as well, which raises its firepower markedly. It is powered by a powerful Pratt and Whitney F135 jet engine.
Join the parts with thin modeling cement for plastic and check the fuselage and internal bay joints dry before the glue sets. Apply a primer before painting to unify the surface and bring out the fine engraved lines. The low-reflective finish typical of the F-35 comes out well with an airbrush and gentle emphasis of the individual panels. Paint the carried ordnance and pylons separately and fit them at the very end of the build.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included, unless stated otherwise.
