An Xtradecal decal sheet for the Fairey Swordfish Mk.I in 1:72 scale, the second part brings markings for the British carrier-borne torpedo biplane. It is an accessory for a model, not a kit.
Responsibility details are not available.
A sheet of waterslide decals from the British brand Xtradecal in 1:72 scale for the Fairey Swordfish torpedo biplane in the Mk.I version. The designation second part means that it is a continuation of the line for the same type: the manufacturer divides a larger range of markings among several sheets in this way, so that complete variants including the accompanying lettering fit on one sheet. Which particular machines the sheet covers is given on the packaging and in the instructions supplied; before buying, it pays to compare what the manufacturer gives on the packaging so that you get exactly the markings you want to build.
The Fairey Swordfish was a British carrier-borne torpedo and reconnaissance biplane. In design it came from the 1930s: a tube-frame fuselage covered with fabric, a fixed undercarriage, a radial engine and a three-man crew in open cockpits. Although it already looked outdated at the time of its service, it stayed in use throughout the war because it managed what faster machines could not: it took off from and landed on short decks even in poor weather and carried a torpedo, bombs or depth charges. The Mk.I version is the basic form without the later radar equipment. Its characteristic silhouette with its spread lifting surfaces and abundant bracing is among the most easily recognized shapes of its day.
The base is what decides. Apply the decals solely onto a glossy surface: a matte varnish has a microscopically broken surface under which air is trapped, and the decal silvers around itself. On the Swordfish, with its many struts and bracing wires, think the order out in advance: lay the markings on the lifting surfaces before the whole interplane arrangement is assembled, otherwise you will not reach the right place. Do not soak a decal in warm water for too long, only until the film starts to release from the backing. Carry it to the target together with the backing, hold it and draw the backing out from under the film. Finally seal everything with a matte varnish, which unifies the surface and hides the edge of the film.
This is an accessory for a model. The sheet contains neither a kit, paints nor glue.
