An injection-molded plastic kit of the German Sturmgeschutz III assault gun in the Ausf.B version in 1:72 scale from the Trumpeter brand. The set contains parts in gray plastic, continuous vinyl tracks and a decal sheet. The model captures the early version of the StuG III with its low casemate superstructure and short gun.
The Sturmgeschutz III (StuG III) came about on the chassis of the Panzer III medium tank as an armored assault gun for direct fire support of the infantry. The early versions including the Ausf.B carried a short gun of 75 mm caliber with a short barrel length. Its low silhouette and solid frontal armor made the StuG an effective and economical means; the later versions with longer guns then found use as tank destroyers as well.
Assemble and paint the running gear before closing the hull. Join the vinyl tracks with super glue. Early German machines tended to be in a uniform gray, so it pays to lighten and shade the large flat surfaces of the superstructure carefully. We recommend a primer, the base shade with an airbrush and a patina of washes into the engraved lines, with pigments and mud effects on the running gear.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
