An injection-molded plastic kit of the German StuG III assault gun in the Ausf.F variant, in 1:72 scale from Trumpeter. The model captures the turning-point version, the first to receive the long anti-tank gun. The box holds injection-molded plastic on several sprues together with one-piece flexible tracks and illustrated instructions.
The Ausf.F version marked a fundamental change of direction in the development of the StuG III. Instead of the short gun for infantry support it received the long 7.5 cm StuK 40 L/43, which gave the vehicle real anti-tank firepower. The StuG III thus turned from an assault gun into a highly effective tank destroyer. An extraction fan was added on the roof of the superstructure to draw off the fumes of the more powerful gun. The Ausf.F entered service in 1942 and helped to face well-armored Allied tanks.
Finish the running gear and the belly of the hull first, and only then fit the superstructure with the long gun. Line the barrel up carefully so that it sits true on the axis. Spray the period color in thin coats with an airbrush, give depth to the engraved lines with a dark wash and weather the running gear with dust pigments for mud effects.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
