A 1:72 HMS Hermes R12 (1959) display board is a printed display board for a model in 1:72 scale. It is not a kit and not a part to be fitted to a model, but a board in its own right with a realistic print of a surface. You stand a model on it in a display case as well as when photographing, and the scene gains at once the setting the real subject moved in. The board is acrylic, 3 mm thick and 280 x 180 mm in size.
The print captures a section of the flight deck of the British aircraft carrier HMS Hermes with the hull number R12 as she was in 1959, that is at the time she entered service. Hermes was the last unit of the Centaur class and entered service as a full-fledged aircraft carrier with an angled deck, steam catapults and a mirror landing sight. The ship later went through a conversion, but the print holds her form from the end of the 1950s. The decks of aircraft carriers have characteristic markings, a non-slip surface and traces of use, which on a model give the setting away at once.
The display board will please builders of shipboard aircraft and helicopters in 1:72 scale, collectors of British naval equipment and modelers who want a uniform, thematically fitting area in a display case. It also works well under models that are often photographed, because the print creates the set by itself.
A practical note: wipe the printed side only with a soft dry cloth, without solvents, and store the display board flat so that it stays even. A model is not part of the delivery.
