About product

Japanese Type 98 Gunsight 1:72 (Quickboost)

A resin Type 98 reflector gunsight for Japanese aircraft of the Second World War in 1:72 scale from the manufacturer Quickboost. It is not an aircraft model but an accurately cast detail part for a cockpit that replaces the coarsely suggested or missing gunsight from a base kit with a more faithful shape.

What the part is for

The Type 98 reflector gunsight was one of the optical gunsights of the Japanese air services and it replaced the older telescopic sights. It projected a lit aiming pattern onto a glass plate for the pilot, so that he could aim without taking his eyes off the target. In a small scale this instrument tends to be merely suggested in the injection mold, which is why a sharply cast resin part markedly brings the interior under the glazing of the cockpit to life.

Usage and painting tips

Resin parts call for more careful preparation: wash them in lukewarm soapy water to remove mold release residue, separate them carefully from the casting block and glue them with super glue (cyanoacrylate); protect your airways when sanding. Paint the body of the gunsight in flat black or a dark metal, the glass can be suggested with a drop of gloss varnish and the reflected pattern with a fine light dot.

Who the part is for

  • Modelers building Japanese aircraft of the Second World War in 1:72 scale
  • Anyone after a more faithful cockpit detail under the glazing
  • Collectors of the hardware of the Japanese Army Air Force and the Imperial Japanese Navy Air Service
  • Builders bothered by an indistinct gunsight from a kit

The part is supplied as a resin accessory, unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and a base kit are not included in the package unless stated otherwise.
