A plastic kit of the Grumman S2F-1 Tracker antisubmarine aircraft in the colors of the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force, 1:72 scale.
Responsibility details are not available.
The Grumman S2F-1 Tracker is a twin-engine antisubmarine aircraft of the 1950s. The designers crammed into one fuselage everything that until then had been divided between two machines, that is both the search and the attack part of the task: the equipment for finding submarines and a bomb bay. It is powered by two piston radial engines, the wing is set high and can be folded so that the aircraft takes up as little room as possible on a deck. In a retractable housing under the rear part of the fuselage there is a radar, and in the tail boom a magnetic anomaly detector. The S2F-1 designation comes from the time before the unification of the American designation system, after which the same machines were designated S-2A. The Tracker also served with the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force, which operated it from land bases.
The kit captures the S2F-1 Tracker in 1:72 scale in the form used by the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force. The overview of the parts, the assembly options and the color schemes offered are given in the manufacturer's instructions.
With a twin-engine aircraft with a high-set wing it pays to try the assembly dry in advance, so that the dihedral of the two wing halves comes out symmetrical. Paint the cockpit and the inside of the engine nacelles before you close them. Fit the glazing only after spraying and pick out the boundary between the frame and the glass with narrow masking tape.
For modelers interested in naval aircraft of the 1950s and 1960s and in Japanese postwar aviation equipment. The kit is supplied unassembled and unpainted, and the paints and the glue are not part of the delivery, unless stated otherwise.
