A set of pre-cut masks, 1:72 Kayaba Katsuodori - cockpit glazing masks, from Dead Design. According to the name it contains masks for two variants of the canopy. Target kit: Meng.
Responsibility details are not available.
This is not a kit but an accessory to a model. The set contains pre-cut self-adhesive masks for the framing of the cockpit canopy, and according to the name it holds masks for the two variants of glazing the kit offers. The Kayaba Katsuodori was a Japanese interceptor with a ramjet engine that remained at the project stage. An unpowered glider form was tested for it, but the type never reached series production. The masks are cut for the Meng kit.
Why mask the cockpit canopy
Frames cut by hand from masking tape never keep the same width and they break on a domed canopy. A pre-cut mask fits the shape of the molding, gives a straight line of even width once sprayed and leaves no adhesive residue inside the cockpit. The rest of the glazing stays clean under the mask, so neither overspray nor dust gets onto it.
First decide which variant of the canopy you are building and find the matching masks on the sheet according to the instructions. Wash the glazing and let it dry, carry the masks over with tweezers and press them down around their perimeter. Spray the frame first in the interior color and, once it has dried, go over it with camouflage. Lay the paint on in thin coats perpendicular to the edge of the mask and lift the mask off while the paint is fresh.
