An accessory set for modelers who want to show the wing of the Lockheed Neptune patrol aircraft in 1:72 scale with the flaps extended. Injection-molded kits usually have the flaps molded in one piece with the wing, so the model stands on its base with a smooth trailing edge. A resin replacement lets the flaps be lowered and reveals their rear face too, with its stiffeners and hinges. It is not a model of an aircraft but an accessory for a part-built kit; the contents of the package are stated on the box and in the instructions.
The Lockheed P2V Neptune was a land-based patrol and anti-submarine aircraft of American manufacture that served from the second half of the 1940s for many decades with a number of navies. It was powered by two radial engines, and later versions additionally received a pair of jet engines in underwing nacelles for faster transit to the operating area and for takeoff at full load. It was precisely the substantial wing with its extensive high-lift devices that allowed the Neptune the long low-altitude patrol flights that were its main work.
First wash the parts in lukewarm soapy water so that they are rid of the mold release agent. Cut the casting blocks off with a saw and never snap the thin surfaces of the flaps. The space on the trailing edge of the wing usually has to be milled out, and it is sensible to try it dry first before you reach for the glue. Extended flaps hold with cyanoacrylate glue, but check the angle of extension and the length of the hinges against photographs of the real machine. The inside of the flap bays and the rear faces of the flaps are painted as the wing interior, and a dark wash will then bring out the ribs and the rivets.
The set is an accessory for a plastic kit. The base model, paints and glue are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
