Injection-molded plastic model of the Japanese naval bomber Kugisho P1Y1 Ginga (Frances) Type 11 in 1:72 scale from Hasegawa. The Allied code name of this type was Frances. The box contains plastic parts, transparent parts for the glazing and a decal sheet; the exact number of parts and the choice of schemes are given in the instructions in the box.
The P1Y1 Ginga was a fast twin-engined bomber of the Imperial Japanese Navy of the end of the Second World War. It was created to a requirement for a machine with high speed and long range, capable of level as well as dive bombing and of carrying a torpedo. It was marked by an aerodynamically clean, slim fuselage and two engines. It served in the later stage of the war in the Pacific; the aircraft was capable but fairly demanding to maintain in service.
Glue the plastic parts with liquid modeling cement for plastic, and fill and sand the joints of the fuselage and the engine nacelles carefully. It pays to mask the cockpit glazing and to fit it only once the interior is painted. Apply a base coat (primer) before painting and spray with an airbrush in thin coats; Japanese naval schemes benefit from gentle panel highlighting and a light wash.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
