An injection-molded plastic model of the Japanese fighter prototype Kyushu J7W1 Shinden in 1:72 scale from Hasegawa. It is a classic tooling with a finely rendered surface, a detailed cockpit and clear canopy parts; a figure of a standing pilot is included as well.
The Shinden was a Japanese interceptor with an unusual canard configuration — the main wing set well back, a small horizontal surface at the front and an engine with a pusher propeller behind the pilot. This layout was meant to concentrate the armament in the nose and to improve the view and the maneuverability. The aircraft was created at the very end of the Second World War and made its first flight in August 1945; it remained a prototype and never reached production.
Assemble and paint the cockpit before you glue the fuselage together; fit the clear canopy last and mask around the cockpit while spraying. With this type it is useful to leave the pusher propeller and the forward canards separate until the paint and the decals are on. Glue the plastic parts with a thin plastic cement, then fill and sand the joints. Apply a primer before painting and spray the paint in thin coats with an airbrush.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
