1:72 Luftwaffe Ground Attackers vol.1 decals

A set of decals in 1:72 scale, that is an accessory, not a kit. It holds markings for three types of German aircraft intended for attacks on ground targets: the Ju 87 D-3 dive bomber, the twin-engine Hs 129 and the Fw 190 F-8 fighter-bomber. The vol.1 designation suggests that it is the first part of a series, with further sets of the same focus following on from it. Aftermarket decals tend to have a thinner carrier film and more accurate color registration than sheets from the box, which in a small scale shows mainly on small inscriptions.

The real subjects

The Ju 87 D was a late development version of the well-known dive bomber with a revised nose shape and a more powerful engine. The Hs 129 was a twin-engine aircraft with a markedly cramped armored cockpit, designed specifically for commitment against ground vehicles. The Fw 190 F-8 was the attack variant of the Fw 190 fighter with strengthened protection of the lower fuselage and with equipment for carrying bombs. All three types share the same role but a very different design, so the set covers three models that look quite unlike one another.

Usage tips

Apply the decals only to a smooth, gloss surface, as matte varnish holds air under the film and a silvery edge results. Trim the motif close to the artwork, soak it for a few seconds and let it rest until the film releases. Put a drop of water on the spot, slide the decal on and blot the surplus away with a paper towel. On riveted and engraved areas a decal softener helps the film to settle onto the relief. Finally, varnish everything with a matte or semi-gloss varnish, which evens out the transitions of the film.
