1:72 M3 Lee/Grant is a set of turned metal barrels for the 75mm M2 gun in the short form and for the 37mm M6 gun on a model of the American medium tank.

This is not a model of a tank but a set of replacement parts. The contents are turned metal barrels of both weapons of the American medium tank M3, that is the short 75mm M2 gun in the hull mount and the 37mm M6 gun in the turret. The set thus covers the early production form of the vehicle. It is released by the Polish brand MASTER, which concentrates on turned barrels and small tubular parts.
The M3 carries two barrels, and both are clearly visible on a finished model. An injection-molded plastic part comes about from two halves, so a mold seam remains along the whole length that cannot be sanded away without the circular cross-section being lost. The muzzle tends to be blind or merely suggested by a dimple, which in 1:72 scale catches the eye at once. A turned metal part, against that, is straight and concentric and its bore is genuinely drilled, so the muzzle looks like an opening and not like a flat spot. Metal also gives a thin barrel stiffness: it does not twist and it stands up to handling of the finished model. On the short gun with its prominent muzzle the difference shows immediately, and on the small turret barrel it shows above all from close up.
Cut the plastic barrels off as close to the mount as possible and true up the holes with a drill, so that the metal parts sit concentrically. Degrease the metal and glue it with cyanoacrylate glue, as ordinary cement for plastic will not join it. Before painting, apply a primer intended for metal, otherwise the coat comes away from the smooth surface. Darken the muzzles of both barrels at the end and gently emphasize the wear on the edges, so that the weapons do not look as though they were of one piece with the hull.
