A mask set for building the helicopter UH-34 Choctaw in 1:72 scale. It holds self-adhesive masks cut to follow exactly the shape of the glazing and of the other places that are to be covered during spraying. The EXPERT grade is the widest in the range. On a helicopter the masking is especially laborious: the pilot's area has a large glazed surface divided into a series of panes, and the side windows of the fuselage are added to that, so cutting tape by hand takes more time than the spraying itself.
A cut mask holds the shape of a frame exactly, whereas tape cut with a scalpel directly on the part is easily led astray and risks cutting into the plastic. In 1:72 scale the frames are only a few tenths of a millimeter wide, and even a small deviation shows on a finished model as an unevenly thick frame. The masks moreover cover the glazing as a whole, so no dust or overspray gets into the cockpit.
Degrease the glazing first and let it dry completely. Transfer the mask with tweezers, press it down and smooth the edges with a blunt tool. Spray thinned paint in several light coats, letting it set between them. On thin frames a first coat of interior color works well, with the top shade only after that. Lift the mask off while the paint is freshly dry; once the finish has fully cured, the edge peels away with it more easily.
The package holds only the masks. A kit and paints are not part of it.
