Markings for the MiG-21 bis version in the small 1:72 scale.
Responsibility details are not available.
The 1:72 scale is the natural environment for the MiG-21. The model fits in a display case, it can be built in a series of several examples side by side, and the choice of kits is wide. What is missing, though, is variety in the markings: most boxes bet on the same two or three well-tried subjects, and so a collection easily starts to repeat itself.
The bis version, meanwhile, served exceptionally long and with some users it saw the new century. It therefore went through changes of finish, exchanges of tactical numbers and changes of national insignia, so there is plenty of material for a different rendition; the modeler just has to get hold of the right elements.
Small elements tolerate fewer mistakes than in the 1:48 scale, which is larger by half. It pays to work over a light-colored surface so that the cut-out piece is visible, and to use water without limescale: deposits stay under the film after drying as matte patches.
Longer pieces of marking are best transferred over a moist surface and aligned with a flat brush, not with the fingers. Once the film has sucked itself onto the wrong place, getting it off without damaging the print practically never succeeds in this scale.
