Decals, Polish technical stenciling for the MiG-21PFM, M, MF and bis, 1:72

This sheet of technical stenciling from the Polish brand Model Maker is intended for MiG-21 models in the PFM, M, MF and bis versions in 1:72 scale. It is not a set of color schemes but an accessory with service markings, that is, with the small legends and marks scattered over the whole airframe of a real aircraft. You obtain the model separately.

What technical stenciling does for a model

Technical stenciling is what sets a nicely sprayed model apart from a model that looks like a real machine. It marks jacking points, filler necks, closures, warning markings around the intake and the exhaust, and walkways. In 1:72 scale they are of course illegible as text, but it is exactly their layout and density that create the impression of a worn service machine. Applying them is drawn out, so count on several sittings.

How to go about them

• Work in small sections of the airframe and blot the water off as you go, so neighboring legends do not shift.
• Apply the legends only after the main markings, that is, after the national insignia and the numbers.
• On curved areas and over engraved lines a softener helps.
• Once you are done, let the model rest and only then varnish it; small decals hold less firmly than large ones.
