An injection-molded plastic kit in 1:72 scale depicting the Nieuport Ni-17, a French First World War fighter biplane. The tooling comes from Czech manufacturer Eduard, known for a finely fitted surface and sensitively rendered detail (taut wing coverings, ribs, fuselage stitching). The kit is supplied as a set of plastic parts with a decal sheet; we recommend checking the exact package contents and edition for the specific box.
The Nieuport 17 was one of the most successful fighters of the early period of aerial warfare. It was a light and agile biplane with a characteristic narrower lower wing (a configuration called a sesquiplane), powered by a Le Rhone rotary engine. It entered service in 1916 and quickly excelled in climb rate and handling. A number of Allied aces flew it, and the aircraft became one of the symbols of aerial combat over the Western Front.
Biplanes require patience: expect fine parts (struts, reinforcements) and a final stage of rigging — stringing wires between the wings, for which stretched thread or special line works well. Use thin liquid cement for polystyrene on the plastic, smooth the fuselage and engine cowling joints, and unify the base with a primer. Apply the colors with an airbrush in thin coats; the impregnated fabric covering stands out with subtle weathering and shading of the individual panels.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints, and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
