The 1:72 North American P-51D Mustang Mk.IV in RAF service decal sheet from Xtradecal is focused on Mustangs in British service.
Responsibility details are not available.
This is a decal sheet in 1:72 scale, that is an accessory for a kit and not a model of the aircraft. The British manufacturer Xtradecal has focused it on P-51D machines under the British designation Mustang Mk.IV. How many schemes the sheet carries and which units it covers is given on the packaging and in the instructions supplied with the sheet.
The North American P-51D was the most numerous version of the Mustang, recognizable by its bubble canopy and the lowered fuselage spine, which gave the pilot a view to the rear. The Royal Air Force took the type over under its own designation in the Mustang Mk.IV series. The British machines differed from the American ones chiefly in their markings, because they carried national roundels, unit code letters and a different combination of finishes. It is precisely this difference that makes the sheet a sensible accessory for kits that are usually packed with American markings.
The Mustang has a slim fuselage of circular section and a smooth wing without pronounced structure, so the large roundels and code letters have to sit without a single air bubble. Wrap the fuselage gradually, with plenty of water under the film, and press the surplus out with a soft cloth from the center outward. Under the wing, reckon with raised details and the seams of panels, where a softener comes in useful once the decal is settled. Before laying the decals on, do not forget the gloss varnish.
A decal sheet is an accessory. The kit, paints and glue are not included in the package.
