An injection-molded plastic kit of the American single-engine Northrop N-3PB floatplane in 1:72 scale from Special Hobby. The kit, to be glued and painted, offers finely engraved surfaces, cockpit glazing and usually small photo-etched parts as well; it draws the eye with its pair of large floats and its link to Norwegian history. It is a rewarding and less common subject.
The N-3PB was a single-engine floatplane for patrol and ground attack developed by Northrop to a Norwegian order. After Norway was occupied, these machines served the Norwegian air force in exile and the Allied forces — part of the training took place in Canada, in camps nicknamed Little Norway. The aircraft were used on patrol and anti-submarine duties; they carried prominent stripes in the Norwegian national colors.
Assemble and paint the cockpit and the gunner's station before closing up the fuselage; bond the photo-etched parts with super glue (cyanoacrylate). Pay attention to seating the floats and their struts accurately, so that the model stands well. Spray a primer over the surface, mask the glazing, lay the shades down with an airbrush, apply the decals onto a gloss clear coat and unify the whole with a final varnish and a measured patina.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
