An injection-molded plastic kit of the American fighter P-51B Mustang in 1:72 scale from the Polish maker Arma Hobby. The edition focuses on aircraft used in the less familiar but all the more demanding China/Burma/India (CBI) theater. The box contains finely shaped plastic parts, a clear part for the characteristic razorback canopy and painting masks; a set of decal markings for several specific aircraft is included as well. The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted, to be glued and painted. The exact package contents and markings depend on the particular edition.
The North American P-51 Mustang is one of the most famous fighters of the Second World War. The P-51B version is marked by the older fuselage with a framed canopy, the razorback, before the bubble canopy of the later versions arrived. Thanks to the license-built Rolls-Royce Merlin engine the Mustang gained excellent performance at high altitude and an exceptional range, which made it a feared escort fighter. In the China/Burma/India theater, US Army Air Forces Mustangs operated against Japanese forces; aircraft from this area were often decorated with striking shark mouths on the nose.
First clean the parts up and glue them with liquid modeling cement for plastic; sand the fuselage joints and the wing leading edges back once dry. Spray the model with a primer before painting. The masks supplied make masking the canopy and the wheels easier. The bright metal finish typical of many CBI aircraft is best created with an airbrush and metallic shades; olive drab camouflage benefits from subtle shading of the panel lines. The striking shark mouths and markings are carried by waterslide decals, which you even out with a coat of clear once dry.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
